How to Unlike All Pages on Facebook
Sábado, 14 de Mayo de 2011 07:42 p.m.

Do you want to unlike all pages on Facebook? This guide will show you the most comfortable way to do it.

Once you have logged in to Facebook, on the top right of the page, click on the Profile option and then on the Info link in the left column. This will lead you to your info section, in which all the pages you liked are organized into two areas: 'Arts and Entertainment' and 'Activities and Interests.' Next we will see how to unlike your pages in each one of them.

Removing pages in the Arts and Entertainment area

Select the Edit option at the right extreme of the 'Arts and Entertainment' area, the one pointed in the next image:

Once you have done this, you will be directed to a new page in which you will be able to edit your Facebook likes. To remove each one of them, click on their names and then on the link that says “Remove,” that will appear at the right extreme of the screen:

Once you have removed all the pages in this area, click on the "Save Changes" button, at the bottom of the form.

Removing pages in the Activities and Interests area

On the info section that we opened at the beginning of this guide, select the Edit option at the right extreme of the 'Activities and Interests' area. Once you have done this, you will be directed to a new page in which you will be able to edit your Facebook likes.

To remove your visible activity pages click on the x at the right extreme of each one of them. To remove your interest pages click on their names and then on the link that says “Remove,” that will appear at the right extreme of the screen. Then, to delete all the other pages, click on the link that says “Show other pages,” located at the bottom of the form, and after that, in the pop up window that will appear, click on the “Remove Page” button of each page. Finally click on “Close” in the pop up window and then on the “Save Changes” button, which is near the bottom of the form.

Although this way you will remove one page at a time, this method is the most comfortable to unlike all pages on Facebook.

How did the rumor about Facebook shutting down start?
Sábado, 14 de Mayo de 2011 07:21 p.m.

Since January 8 there is a fast spreading rumor that says that Facebook is shutting down on March 15, 2011, because its creator Mark Zuckerberg finds managing the site too stressful.

The oldest question about this rumor on Yahoo Answers makes reference to a post of January 8 by the satirical Weekly World News, which seems to be the one that started the rumor.

The creation of the rumor seems to be the result of the mixture of two different real news. The first one is the announcing by Yahoo that its service Yahoo Video will be closing down on March 15, 2011, and the second one is an opinion article published on CNN in which the author sees a recent investment in Facebook as the “beginning of the end” for this company. This is because, in his opinion, the investment is a sign of Facebook being cashing out.

As indeed Goldman Sachs recently invested $500 million dollars in Facebook, some people state that, besides being false, this rumor is also ridiculous. Facebook already responded the rumors ironically with a tweet that says, "We didn't get the memo about shutting down, so we'll keep working away. We aren't going anywhere; we're just getting started."

This is not the first time that Facebook is mentioned in a massive rumor. In fact, the home page of Facebook says, "It's free, and always will be" since the date stated by a previous rumor for Facebook to start charging its users.

Maybe on March 15 the home page will say “It's free, and always will be, and we are not closing anytime soon.”

How does Facebook choose which friends to show on my profile?
Sábado, 14 de Mayo de 2011 07:20 p.m.

Since the implementation of the New Profile Layout in December 2010, Facebook uses a specific method to select which friends appear on your profile. The method is explained in the following paragraph from one of its Help Center pages:

“Friends who you publicly interact with the most appear first on your profile. Examples of public interactions include Wall posts, comments and mutually attended events — Facebook will never show friends based on whose profiles you choose to view or who you interact with over messages and chat.”

As Facebook has stated many times that it makes technically impossible to know who views whose profile, that information is not used to select the friends that appear first.

How to Get the New Facebook Profile
Domingo, 15 de Mayo de 2011 06:54 a.m.

Note: This article was intended to explain how to get the new profile while it was being implemented during December 2010 and January 2011. By now all users already have the new profile. The article is still available just in case there's another profile upgrade.

Want to get the new profile on Facebook? As Facebook is implementing this change gradually, sooner or later all users will have it, but there is a way to have it earlier.

First log in to your Facebook account. Secondly, go to the page www.facebook.com/about/profile/, which you can access by clicking here.

On that page, on the right side, you will see a large green button that says “Get the New Profile.” Click on it and you will have the new profile.

Although once you do this you will not be able to switch back to the old design, this is not important because the change is being applied gradually to all the Facebook users.

Is there any way to change your profile back after you upgrade it to the new one on Facebook?
Sábado, 14 de Mayo de 2011 07:19 p.m.

Unfortunately for those who want to, there is no way to switch back to the old design after you upgrade to the new Facebook profile. This applies both to the ones who upgraded it voluntarily and to the ones whose profile was upgraded automatically by Facebook.

This is the statement in which Facebook address this issue on one of its Help Center pages.

We’re rolling out the new profile to everyone slowly. If you don’t see it yet and would like to upgrade early, click here. You will not be able to switch back to the old design after upgrading.

On another page, Facebook address this issue more specifically:

How do I go back to the older version of my profile?

Once you switch to the new version of your profile, you cannot return to the previous version. Upon switching, you will have the option to take a brief tour of the new profile so you can easily locate your favorite features and learn about the new profile features that are available.

As Facebook is implementing this change gradually, sooner or later all the users will have the new profile, and there is no way back from it.

How to Add a Friend on Facebook
Sábado, 14 de Mayo de 2011 07:45 p.m.

Want to add a new friend on Facebook? In order to do this you need to send a friend request that must be accepted by the person you want to add. This guide will show you how to do it.

Once you have logged in to Facebook, type the name of the person you want to add in the search text box that is at the top of the screen and then click on the search icon, which is the one pointed in the next image:

Once you have done that, click the People icon that is on the left sidebar. This will focus the search on people, and will filter out pages and groups.

Once you have done this you will see a list of all the people whose name matches with the one you entered. If there are many people with the same name, you can detect which is the one you are looking for by seeing their pictures or by clicking on their names to see the info they share. You may have to click on the link that says “See More Results” to continue browsing the users if there are too many of them.

Once you have found the right one just click on the “Add as a Friend” button that is at the right side of its name. This will open a window in which you have to click on the “Send Request” button.

If the user accepts the request, the friend connection will be immediately established.

How to Change Your Name on Facebook
Sábado, 14 de Mayo de 2011 07:03 p.m.

Do you want to change the name with which you registered on Facebook? In order to do this, you will have to send a name change request. This guide will show you how to do it.

Once you have logged in to Facebook, click on the Account button at the top right of the page and then select the option that says “Account Settings.”

Once you have done this, click on the “Change” link at the right extreme of the “Name” Section.

Then fill out the form with your first, middle, and last name, and finally click on the “Save Changes” button.

As Facebook representatives review all the requests one by one, the confirmation takes approximately 24 hours. Also keep in mind that, in order to encourage the use of real names, Facebook limits the number of times users can change them.

How do you know if someone has blocked you on Facebook?
Sábado, 14 de Mayo de 2011 08:54 p.m.

Although blocking is confidential, which means that users are not notified when they are blocked and people cannot distinguish from their account between someone that blocked them and someone who abandoned Facebook, there's a way to know if you were blocked or not.

If you can see that someone's profile is still visible from one of your friend's account or from outside Facebook, i.e., by people who are not Facebook users, you will be able to deduce that this person didn't delete his account, and that therefore you were blocked.

What is a Facebook Group?
Sábado, 14 de Mayo de 2011 09:01 p.m.

A group is a space provided by Facebook to its users for them to join and discuss some particular issue. Any user can create a group, and in this way, become its administrator.

A group administrator can control its membership, content, and privacy settings. In this respect, groups can be “open,” which means that anyone on Facebook can join or view it, “closed,” which means that the admin must approve all membership requests, or “secret,” which means that it will be not possible to find the group in the searches or view it, and that membership will be only by invitation.

Administrators can also send messages to all the members of their groups, appoint other administrators, and add officers, which are users that have no additional privileges beyond regular members but whose names are showed in a special place in the main page of the group.

Users can join open groups by looking for its name in the search box and then clicking the “Join” button at the right side of its title.

What is a Facebook Community Page?
Sábado, 14 de Mayo de 2011 09:00 p.m.

A community page is a kind of Facebook page, which is created to support a cause or just for fun. They are called in that way to differentiate them from the “official pages,” whose purpose is to allow the representative of a business or famous person to communicate with his customers and fans.

An important aspect of community pages is that when they become very popular, attracting thousands of fans, its creator loses the admin status and the page is adopted and maintained by the Facebook community.

Users can join any community page by looking for its name in the search box and then clicking the “Like” button at the right side of its title.

What is a Poke on Facebook?
Sábado, 14 de Mayo de 2011 08:59 p.m.

The poke is a feature of Facebook whose sole purpose is to attract the attention of another user. The only thing that happens when you poke someone is that this person receives a poke alert on his or her home page. Users can only poke a confirmed friend, someone in a shared network, or a friend of a friend.

As pokes attract the attention of a user, they can be used for various different things and thus have different meanings. You can, for instance, poke a friend just as a way of saying “Hello.”

The poke alert you receive when you are poked is just a poke icon with a message that says, “You were pocked by,” and the name of the poker. It also has an option to “Remove Poke” and another one to “Poke Back.” Using this last option, sometimes people have “poke wars,” where they keep virtually poking each other until someone gives up.

Doesn't sound funny, but that’s what people do.

What happens when you ignore a friend request on Facebook?
Sábado, 14 de Mayo de 2011 08:57 p.m.

When you receive a friend request on Facebook, you can decline it and delete it from your Requests List by selecting “Ignore.” Facebook users are not notified when you decline their requests in this way, and they will be able to send you another friend request in the future.

On the other hand, if instead of selecting “Ignore” you take no action at all, the person will not be able to send you a new friend request. Whenever they find you on Facebook, until you take some action, instead of having the “Add as a Friend” option they will see a message that says, “Awaiting friend confirmation.”

How to Use Facebook >> Friends and Users >> What happens when you ignore a friend request on Facebook?

What happens when you remove a friend on Facebook?
Sábado, 14 de Mayo de 2011 08:57 p.m.

When you remove someone from your list of friends on Facebook, you are automatically removed from theirs. Although Facebook doesn’t notify its users that someone removed them as a friend, they still can deduce that this happened by noticing an absence in their own list of friends.
